We have all been there: someone older, bigger, or more powerful knocks us down and we feel powerless to stand up to them in that moment. Likewise, we have also all seen it happen to someone else. Courage is not how you react when it happens to you. Courage is how you respond when it happens to someone else. When you have relative safety but risk it to prevent a less powerful person from being attacked or feeling alone in their moment of vulnerability. Courage is a selfless act that puts your own privilege at risk. Your day will undoubtedly be filled with opportunities to be courageous. Take a page from the stoics and practice identifying these opportunities and then step in and step up.
Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.
