In times of crisis and when there is uncertainty, leaders can sometimes feel insecure and threatened and may react with defensiveness. It is in these moments that it is particularly important to remember the Stoic principle of humility. As much as it is important to remember that people who frustrate you are doing their best, it is equally important for you to remember that you are still learning and growing, that you do not know all you need, yet. In the moment when you feel defensive, be conscious about taking a humble and kind stance towards others. Make a special effort to inquire about their views and invite them to help you understand their point of view better. Taking a humble stance does not weaken you, it strengthens you.
There is nothing noble in being superior to your fellow man; true nobility is being superior to your former self.
― Ernest Hemingway
